What do we ask of our volunteers?

To become a reading volunteer, we ask that you can:

Visit one of our nominated schools for an hour a week, plus travel time
Commit for a school year or at least a full term (approximately 12 weeks)
Complete the necessary training
Provide children with individual reading support
Foster a positive attitude to literacy and learning
Act as a positive role model

You will also need to:

Have a passion for reading
Have a desire to support children’s education and achievement
Believe in the importance of literacy
Be fluent in English and a competent reader
Enjoy spending time with children
Be patient, encouraging and enthusiastic
Be a good listener and communicator

In order to apply for the role:

You will have been a resident in the UK for the last 2 year
You agree to undertake a Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check
You must be able to provide contact details for two references
