Adult Learning
ABCD
Our Adult Learning contract continues to be extremely successful. The curriculum is extremely well designed and delivered to effectively meet the needs of the learners which we traditionally attract. Our courses include: English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Confidence Building, Steps 2 Work, Inspire & Achieve, NHS into Work, Maths and English for Parents and Digital Inclusion.
Our ‘Steps 2 Work’ courses at the job centres have supported many unemployed learners into work and more recently our ’NHS into Work‘ course has proved to be an outstanding success. ESOL continues to be popular and demand and attendance is high on all courses.
Through learner feedback, 100% felt supported by the course tutor and 90% said the tutor had assessed their prior learning.
The achievement and pass rates on our courses is excellent with an achievement rate of 94.4% and a pass rate of 99.8%.
Learner achievement rates remain similar across all groups with learners with disabilities and learning difficulties 92.9%; learners from 20% most deprived wards 93.9%; BAME learners 94%.
Customer Service and You
We have been extremely proud and honoured to be a part of the “Customer Service and You” programme, a partnership between Leeds City Council, Leeds NHS Trust and Learning Partnerships.
Through our Adult Learning contract, we have delivered two 8 week programmes and supported over 50 learners, who predominantly live in the local deprived areas.
They have learned about the NHS Leeds Teaching Hospitals vision through ‘The Leeds Way’ which defines how the trust works to deliver the best possible care and outcomes for their patients.
Participants completed a ‘NHS Customer Care’ and ‘Moving and Handling’ training course whilst also being fully supported to complete their applications.
We are pleased to report that 39 of the participants gained work within the facilities and estates department, working as porters, ward housekeepers and cleaners. We are excited to be running more groups in the future – keep an eye out on this page for more updates
ESOL
2019 has been the first year of delivering a new ESOL framework devised by Leeds City Council Adult Learning Team.
As a part this new framework, we designed 8 new courses across 4 different levels.
Our excellent reputation in providing ESOL classes has created contacts with 2 primary schools in Leeds and we now also deliver sessions in Shakespeare Primary School and Cottingley Primary Academy. In 2020 alone, we have successfully delivered 22 ESOL courses.
Digital Skills
2022 has been the first year we’ve started delivering the new digital skills framework from the Leeds City Council Adult Learning Team. For the past few months, we’ve been working hard to upskill learners on their technical literacy in an increasingly digital world.
Course: NHS Into Work
Fatimah enrolled on the Learning Partnerships NHS course after struggling to get permanent work as a Care Assistant. She had very occasional work with a care agency based in St James Hospital, but the work was irregular and inconsistent. This often affected her benefits having three young children to support and get to school.
Not knowing if she was working from one day to another, was taking its toll on her mental health and she was suffering from anxiety.
Fatimah was determined to succeed sometimes even coming straight from a night shift, she was committed to attending and completing the NHS course.
We are always looking to strengthen our team and widen our reach at Learning Partnerships.
